Roaring Moon ex is a closer with a self-destruct button. Frenzied Gouging knocks out any Active Pokémon — and puts 200 damage on Roaring Moon ex itself. The deck exists to make that trade profitable exactly once, at exactly the right moment.

The Core Cards

  • Roaring Moon ex — Basic Darkness, 230 HP, from Paradox Rift. Attacks: Frenzied Gouging, Calamity Storm.
  • Professor Sada's Vitality — Supporter, Ancient (Trainer) from Paradox Rift.

The Game Plan

Ancient support from Paradox Rift charges it: Professor Sada's Vitality (a Supporter from the same set) exists to pour Energy onto Ancient Pokémon from the discard pile, and the deck discards aggressively to feed it. Calamity Storm is the honest attack for mid-game turns. Save Frenzied Gouging for the opponent's 2-Prize centerpiece and the exchange — your damaged ex for their healthy one — bends the whole prize race.

The Prize Map

Every deck should know its own scoreboard. Your flagship, Roaring Moon ex, gives up 2 Prizes when it falls, so the route to six usually runs through it exactly twice, with single-Prize support taking the early trades. The core above is drawn from Paradox Rift, which is also your shopping list in order: flagship first, evolution line second, support last.

Testing Checklist

  • Goldfish test: is Roaring Moon ex in play and powered by turn three in at least 8 of 10 solo runs?
  • First-Prize test: which Pokémon takes the first Prize while Roaring Moon ex is still developing?
  • Recovery test: after Roaring Moon ex is Knocked Out, who takes the next two Prizes — and is that plan in the deck, or in your hopes?

Budget Roles and Alternatives

The budget version keeps the Ancient shell and swaps the finisher role to other Darkness attackers from Paradox Rift, using Calamity Storm-style midrange pressure instead of the one-shot. You lose the delete button, which is the deck's legend — the support package, though, is shared with half the Ancient strategies in the set.

Build the engine first, goldfish the first three turns until they are boring, and only then start swapping in tech. Every deck in this series rewards that order of operations.
