Gholdengo ex asks one question: how much Basic Energy can one deck hold? Coin Bonus draws extra cards every turn, and Make It Rain converts Energy in hand directly into damage at 50 per card discarded. The deck is a furnace that burns Energy for prizes.
The Core Cards
- Gholdengo ex — Stage 1 Metal, 260 HP, from Paradox Rift. Ability: Coin Bonus; Attacks: Make It Rain.
- Gimmighoul — Basic Psychic, 70 HP, from Paradox Rift. Attacks: Continuous Coin Toss.
The Game Plan
The build runs an unusually high Basic Energy count, because Energy is never a dead draw in this deck — it is either fuel or ammunition. Coin Bonus smooths the early game (draw two per turn when Gholdengo ex leads), Gimmighoul evolves, and by mid-game you are discarding four, five, six Energy for 200–300 damage swings. Keep a running count of Energy left in the deck; the furnace can burn itself out.

The Prize Map
Every deck should know its own scoreboard. Your flagship, Gholdengo ex, gives up 2 Prizes when it falls, so the route to six usually runs through it exactly twice, with single-Prize support taking the early trades. The core above is drawn from Paradox Rift, which is also your shopping list in order: flagship first, evolution line second, support last.
Testing Checklist
- Goldfish test: is Gholdengo ex in play and powered by turn three in at least 8 of 10 solo runs?
- First-Prize test: which Pokémon takes the first Prize while Gholdengo ex is still developing?
- Recovery test: after Gholdengo ex is Knocked Out, who takes the next two Prizes — and is that plan in the deck, or in your hopes?
Budget Roles and Alternatives
Budget versions lean on the same math with humbler partners: any Metal or Colorless attacker that scales with Energy on board can share the high-Energy shell, and single-Prize attackers stretch the prize race while Gholdengo ex reloads. The non-negotiable spec is the Energy count — cut Energy and Make It Rain stops raining.
Build the engine first, goldfish the first three turns until they are boring, and only then start swapping in tech. Every deck in this series rewards that order of operations.
